A strong foundation: support for quality early education Operation Breakthrough Grants from the Early Education Grant Fund improve early education quality and expand access for low-income families and children of color in Kansas City. Written by Julie ScheideggerAugust 10, 2017 Share: Facebook LinkedIn Twitter “Research tells us that the first five years of life are critical in setting a strong foundation for school and life success. Supporting the development of young children is one of the best investments we can make in our community,” says Halley French, Kauffman Foundation program officer in Education. As a member of the Early Education Funders Collaborative, the Kauffman Foundation supports grants of up to $500,000 for Kansas City metro area nonprofit organizations that serve children ages birth to 5 years through direct or support services for early care and education. Applications for these grants will be accepted now through Sept. 1. “From the KC Early Care and Education Landscape Study, we know that there are major discrepancies in what programs are able to offer children and families with the limited resources they have access to,” says French. These grants for school- and center-based providers will be used to support teacher and leader development, parent engagement and creation or expansion of quality programming specifically for low-income families and children of color.
