Operating Programs

The Kauffman Foundation operates 1 Million Cups, Kauffman FastTrac®, and Real World Learning, which drive impact for our strategic priorities: college access and completion, workforce and career development, and entrepreneurship.

1 Million Cups

What started as an idea within the Foundation that entrepreneurs discover solutions and engage with their communities over a million cups of coffee, 1 Million Cups (1MC) was launched in 2012. Founded and operated by the Foundation with the power of volunteers, 1MC is available in more than 100 communities across the country.

1MC provides a supportive, inclusive space for entrepreneurs and their communities to gather and connect, where they can work through business challenges and identify opportunities.

Kauffman FastTrac®

Launched in 1993 by our founder, Ewing Marion Kauffman, Kauffman FastTrac® carries out Mr. Kauffman’s belief that everyone has a fundamental right to turn an idea into an economic reality, regardless of who you are or where you’re from.

Delivered by 100+ affiliate organizations across the United States, FastTrac equips aspiring entrepreneurs with the business skills and insights, tools, resources, and peer networks necessary to start and grow successful businesses.

Real World Learning

Incubated at the Foundation, Real World Learning (RWL) started as a pilot collaboration in 2019 to work with the community to prepare our region, students, and employers for the future. Now, more than 30 school districts across the Kansas City region are reimagining high school with this community-driven initiative that is recognized as one of the most innovative and comprehensive education initiatives in the country.

Through RWL, students get a head start on achieving their career goals by obtaining industry-valued work experience, entrepreneurship skills, college credit, and industry credentials.

Through immersive experiences like client-connected projects and internships with businesses, RWL helps employers invest in the long-term success of their business by engaging, supporting, and inspiring the workforce of tomorrow, and graduates are more likely to pursue further education and successfully navigate the journey to employment.
