Emmah Muema is a program manager – 1 Million Cups (1MC) in Operating Programs for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, where she will lead overall 1MC program operations, providing leadership support to regional representatives and volunteer community organizers working in more than 100 cities across the country. In addition, she will lead process improvement projects, capacity building programs, and national convenings aimed at equipping organizers with what they need to successfully run a sustainable and inclusive 1MC in their communities.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Dr. Muema worked with the Nebraska Department of Economic Development as an Economic Development Manager in the Tax Incentives Division. Prior to that, she worked at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, as the Associate Director for International Students Support. She is a member of the Midlands African Chamber, the only Black chamber in Omaha, Nebraska, and has supported their entrepreneurship program, the Rising CEOs. Dr. Muema has worked in various roles in the Kenyan banking sector, rising through the ranks to the position of executive director at the National Bank of Kenya.

Dr. Muema earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from United States International University, Master of Arts degree in communication studies and development communication from Daystar University, Kenya, Doctor of Education in leadership studies from Bowling Green State University, and her Master of Education in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina.
